The Latest Fashion Collaboration is an Unexpected One

The Dad Sandal may be the mother (or father really??) of the Ugly Shoe Trend as media likes to call it. I just call it my shoe wardrobe. The Ugly Shoe Trend is mostly talked about as being oversized sneakers (Balenciaga Triple S and such) but I feel like the start of it all, the heavy Dad Sandal needs to take credit as the start of it all.
Of course people have been wearing chunky sandals before, but mostly at the summer house. It wasn’t until Céline with ´, also known as the Phoebe Philo era, showed the Birkenstock sandal on the runway that it really became a thing. Or at least it looked like a Birkenstock, but it wasn’t a Birkenstock (it had better leather and a fur lining ofc) and it wasn’t a collaboration with Birkenstock even. But life was never gonna be what it once were for the Birken. I don’t even think Birkenstock themselves knew how fashion they could be. But Philo showed them and the rest of the world what life in comfortable and ergonomic sandals could look like and it was good.
Press forward to today. Yesterday the news spread that Proenza Schouler this March are launching a collection of 6 sandals together with, yes that’s right, Birkenstock.
The campaign shot my Juergen Teller (yes the man who did all the Céline campaigns in the Philo era, how tiny is the fashion right?) features all 6 of the sandals and they look just like in your dreams. If you ever dreamed of Proenza Schouler doing a sandal with Birkenstock that is. Black, white, metallic and mustard colors accompanied by heavy contrast seams and I need them all.
How to score a pair then? Well according to Proenza Schouler the collaboration will be available from the 20th of March but a quick google search told me that four of them are already available on Net-a-Porter.
