The Skinny Scarf is Back

The skinny scarf is back. At least if you want to trust the Danes. Halfway through one of the most joyful and free-spirited fashion weeks in Europe, we are seeing a pattern with long and slim scarfs in the shows. If they are not knitted, they are made out of leather or full of embroidered sequins casually thrown one lap around the neck of both men and women, on and off the runway.

Copenhagen’s rave for y2k fashion is hardly news though (which is the last time we saw this type of neck warmer. The long and slim scarf is not to be confused with the long and very very skinny scarf a la Mick Jagger that Saint Laurent had us wearing in 2024. The difference is actually rockstar with questionable life decisions vs Lizzie MacGuire when she goes to Rome in that movie, viz there’s a huge difference), and of course, the Danes had to go look for something to warm their Scandinavian necks while wearing barely-there tops and breezy parachute pants. No matter if you define the late 90s by Helmut Lang or Versace.
